Ambassador's Programme comes to an end for another year
The Tanbridge House School Ambassador's Programme has come to a close for 2011 with the last of the experiences taking place in September. This programme is run every year at Tanbridge with the help of PMW Communications, who help to match lucky students with their dream jobs for the day.
Year 8 student Emily Stimpson, who dreams of being a West End actress, finished off the experiences with a visit to a West End show. She arrived at a London theatre to see her favourite show performed before receiving cast-signed programmes and being guided through to the back stage area to meet the three principal characters. The actors and actresses were delighted to share their knowledge of the industry with Horsham’s future West End star.
Tomas Murphy, a budding engine engineer, visited the Triumph Motorcycle factory in Hinckley to experience his dream job. The day began with a tour of the factory production line showing a bike from start to finish and a short presentation on career routes into engineering and Triumph. Tomas was then whisked off and shown the top secret testing facilities which all bikes are put through before they go on sale.
Jack Edwards spent the afternoon with CBBC Newsround as part of his Ambassadors experience in June. Upon arriving at the BBC Television Centre in London, Jack was shown through the main Newsround studio, just before presenter Ore Oduba went live for the 5pm show. Jack watched the show live from the production gallery and saw how the show is put together before heading to the Newsround Green Room to interview Ore on what is like being a television presenter and how to get into it.
Harry Close joined the Heart FM Sussex team to get a tasted of life as a radio presenter. He was given a full guided tour of the Brighton based studio and shown how the news programme is written and broadcast throughout the network. Harry then stepped into the main studio to learn how the radio desk worked and to meet Drivetime presenter Tony Shepherd.
Francesca Williams-Faulkner spent the afternoon with Gym Manager and Personal Trainer, Amy Simpson at Slinfold Golf & Country Club to experience what it's like to be a Personal Trainer. Francesca received a full guided tour of the Country Club and gym area before going through a day in Amy’s job. Amy explained the various activities that she needs to complete such as making sure the gym floor is of a high standard meeting the members’ expectations.
Margaret Norfolk, travelled to Candice Photography to learn more about her dream job of being a professional photographer, meeting Candice who is an Oscar winning photographer for Best Commercial Advertising Photography. Margaret assisted in the creation of the set and then started working with Candice on how to get the best shot of One Step Beyond, a band who entered this year’s X Factor show, learning about techniques and lighting along the way.
We are hoping to run the Ambassador's Programme for Year 7s and 8s again for the 2011/2012 academic year. Thanks to PMW and all the companies that took part this year.
