Artsmark Silver Award
9 June 2006
It was announced last week that Tanbridge House School has been successful in achieving an Arts Council of England, Artsmark Silver Award.
Artsmark is the national arts award for schools that demonstrate a commitment to developing their arts provision – from drama to music, design to literature, dance to sculpture. The scheme encourages schools to work in partnership with artists and arts organisations; arts can transform lives, raise aspirations and continually improve opportunities for young people and their local communities. Therefore it is a key priority for the Arts Council to engage young people with the arts.
‘I am delighted that the Arts Council has recognised Tanbridge House School’s ongoing commitment to giving our students a wide range of art experiences and that we have demonstrated our determination in providng a high level of provision in Art, Dance, Drama and Music.’ Maureen Johnson, Headteacher.
‘The Arts are very important to Tanbridge House School and we provide our students with a diverse programme of creative opportunities. Music students have recently worked with local primary schools to produce a concert; students perform in the annual Shakespeare School Festival, regularly perform Street Theatre in Horsham Town Centre and are currently rehearsing for a performance of “The Little Shop of Horrors” at the Hawth Theatre in Crawley on the evenings of 20 and 21 July 2006. Art Students are also working in collaboration with overseas students and teachers to produce multi-cultural pieces of art.’ Maria Williams, Head of Drama
‘Warm congratulations to Tanbridge House School! The arts are for everyone and an Artsmark recognises the significant achievement of schools which are committed to putting the transforming power of the arts at the heart of the curricula – and at the heart of their school community.’
