Author Mark Robson Visits Tanbridge
On Wednesday 17 October the children’s author Mark Robson visited Tanbridge House School for the day. The day started with a Creative Writing Workshop focusing on ways of starting a story for some of the school’s Gifted and Talented students. This was followed by a highly motivational talk for Year 8 students where Mark spoke about how he achieved his goal of becoming an RAF pilot and subsequently an author. Mark then led two further Creative writing workshops where students had the opportunity to start developing a short story. During break times students and staff were able to purchase Mark’s books and were delighted to have the opportunity to have a personal message and signature from Mark. In the afternoon Mark met the Year 7 reading group who are taking part in the West Sussex Children’s Book Award.
The day was a huge success, everyone was struck by Mark’s energy and passion for writing, and his enormous enthusiasm was infectious.
Mark started writing his first book, The Forging of the Sword, in 1995 whilst on a tour of duty in the Falkland Islands. Mark went on to write three more books in the Darkweaver Legacy series and then completed the Imperial series. His forthcoming first title in the new Dragon Orb series is eagerly awaited.
” Our students thoroughly enjoyed the visit from Mark Robson, they really appreciated meeting and working with a published author and they were inspired by what Mark had to say to them.” Mrs H Currington, Learning Resources Centre Manager.
