Older people go back to School
Some enthusiastic “silver surfers” from Horsham are going back to school with the launch of a new Computer Course for older people at Tanbridge House School.
The course launched on 4th November and will run for four sessions. It aims to teach older people with little or no experience of computers how to use them, starting with the very basics including turning on the computer and using the mouse. The course is part of the School’s commitment to the specialist schools programme to offer community outreach in areas such as IT, Maths and Science.
Larry McManamon, ICT Teacher at Tanbridge, is leading the sessions. He said: “Some of the people attending want to use a computer to keep in touch with friends and family or shop online, but have never used a computer or even a mouse before. We’re providing a basic course where they can learn at their own pace, ask lots of questions and become confident computer users. The ICT prefects did a brilliant job in the first session helping the attendees to settle in and make progress according to the needs of each individual. ”
ICT prefects from Tanbridge will be on hand to answer questions and offer one-to-one support at each session.
Anyone who might be interested in attending future courses should contact Sally Weaver, Marketing & Development Manager at Tanbridge House School on 01403 755981.
