Horsham Community has the Record in the Bag!
Cancer Research UK and Swan Walk Shopping Centre are delighted with the Horsham community for pulling together and taking part in ‘Donation Station’. A total of 1922 bags were collected, worth a staggering £34,000!
The campaign has seen the people of Horsham devotedly lugging bags full of clothes, CD’s, DVD’s books and other items, to and from their homes to Swan Walk Shopping Centre.
Local school, Tanbridge House, also played a large part in the success of the Donation Station. Students from the school collected over 200 bags which shows you’re never too young to do your bit in the community! This tremendous effort will now pay off as the donated items will be sold in Cancer Research UK stores throughout the United Kingdom to support the charity’s work to beat cancer.
Peter Marshallsay, Assistant Head teacher and teacher in charge of charities at Tanbridge, commented, “Raising money and awareness for local, national and international charities is very important to Tanbridge House School and the students have done a brilliant job this year by raising over £5000 so far. We were happy to continue this support by donating over 200 bags to the recent Cancer Research Donation Station appeal.”
Cancer Research Donation Stations take place throughout the country and this has been the best one yet! A record number of bags have been collected which means that the Horsham community really has something to be proud of.
Cancer Research UK would also like to thank Swan Walk tenants for all the support they have shown the campaign. Equally, Gill Buchanan, Shopping Centre Manager at Swan Walk has assisted greatly in making the Donation Station a success and really helped in bringing the Horsham community together for this event.
Yvonne O’Connor from Cancer Research UK was thrilled with the outcome. “To have the community donate the amount of bags they did was fantastic. They showed real enthusiasm for the campaign and the results far exceeded what we were expecting. Cancer Research UK thanks the entire Centre’s staff and the people of Horsham for their wonderful support to help fight cancer.”
The success of Donation Station and similar campaigns are vital for Cancer Research UK to continue to support the work of more than 4,250 scientists, doctors and nurses in their dedicated work to improve our understanding of cancer and develop better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat the disease.
If you still have items to donate to Cancer Research UK after this date you can take them along to the Cancer Research store in East Street, Horsham or visit www.cancerresearchuk.org for further details
