The coolest work experience!
On Tuesday 19th January five lucky students from Tanbridge House School in Horsham will be given the coolest experience of a lifetime as they work with the crew of Holiday on Ice to help put on their production of ‘Spirit’ at the Brighton Centre.
Daniella Allum, Jade Goodwin, Cansel Gucbilek, Amy Iveson and Naomi Jones who are all Year 10 students at Tanbridge House School have been selected to take part in an out of school extreme experience to help broaden their minds about the sort of work that is available to them in the future.
Every child in today’s generation watches programmes such as Dancing on Ice on the television or goes to see shows in London’s West End with the majority wishing it could be them in spotlight someday. Considering that finding work in the entertainment industry tends to be based on an individual’s experience, the Brighton Centre wanted to give the students at Tanbridge School a head start by inviting them to become an employee for one day only to see just how much hard work goes on behind the scenes.
Amy Iveson who has always shown a flare for design work in school will take on the role of the lighting technician for the day, helping the crew with Holiday on Ice’s extreme laser effects as well as learning the art of the follow spot.
Jade Goodwin who has a keen ear for music will become a full sound technician preparing the full x watt speaker rig for the afternoon’s show.
Fashion fanatic Daniella Allum, who has stunned her teachers with her outstanding ability in textiles will take on the role of the wardrobe mistress organising the 350 costumes that are worn in the production of ‘Spirit’.
Naomi Jones who is one of the most organized Year 11 students at Tanbridge House will take on the role of assistant tour manager making sure everything is ready for the Brighton Centre’s afternoon performance from checking that the ice has been resurfaced to ensuring that the dancers are fully warmed up to prevent injury.
Finally, Cansel Gucbilek who could be described as the school’s biggest chemistry fan will be taking on her ultimate job as she helps the pyrotechnics electrician prepare the fireworks rig for ‘Spirits’ grand finale!
Head teacher of Tanbridge House School, Jules White, commented: “We have been running the extended work experience Ambassador programme for nearly three years now but this has got to be one of the most extreme work placements our students have ever undertaken. The concept of broadening our student’s minds by showing them jobs that they might not originally have thought of really motivates them in school and offers them unique experiences which will help them with their career choices in the future. We are very grateful that the Holiday on Ice crew at the Brighton Centre will be taking the time out to help our students and show them different job roles in the entertainment industry.”
