"A life skill that helps others as well as helping yourself" - A Tanbridge House School student comments on First Aid Club
First Aid classes are currently held after school on Tuesdays (Year 9 and 10) and Thursdays (Year 7 and 8). The group are working for their ‘Young First Aider Award’ and some also work for their ‘Baby Sitting First Aid Certificate’. Both courses are part of St. John Ambulance in schools. The club, which is open to all on a voluntary basis, is an extension to PSHE studies.
Each year we enter three teams of five students from the club in the National First Aid Schools Competition and have made it to the National Finals on numerous occasions.
Typically First Aiders learn how to preserve life, including how to deal with minor bleeding, chest pain, heart attacks broken bones, resuscitation. The opportunity to secure First Aid qualifications is a practical extra offered by Tanbridge House School. This is a valuable additional skill to take forward into the workplace which employers always find of great use.
