Cycle Safety Notice

A message to students from our Police Liaison Officer

Before you even set off consider your responsibilities as a cyclist:

Your Bike

    • Make sure your bike is the right size for you.

    • Make sure it's well maintained - check your tyres, brakes, all accessories etc

    • Remember - it is against the law to ride your bike at night and when its dark in the morning, without a white front light., red rear reflector, and amber pedal reflectors (if your bike was manufactured after 1/10/85.)

    • You MUST NOT cycle on the pavement, unless there is a designated cycle path or shared use path.

Your Clothing

    • ALWAYS wear a cycle helmet

    • Wear bright clothes with fluorescent strips or accessories

    • Wearing fluorescent items helps you to be seen ONLY during the day

    • Reflective items work when its dark

If you use you bike as part of a delivery job, don't put your life at risk for the sake of a wage packet, make sure you are seen.
