“The good quality of leadership throughout the school is driving the development of teaching and learning

It’s all in a day’s work for Tanbridge Students!

From fighting fires and dunking hoops to designing a building, interviewing an MP, presenting a radio show and becoming an engineer

The Ambassadors’ Programme is back

Back in 2008, Tanbridge House School launched a one of a kind careers project where students were invited to explain what their dream job is and why they would like to do it in the hope that they were inspired to make the right career choices in the future. Now two years later the scheme known as the Ambassadors’ Programme is one of the most successful projects for the school with many students basing their study choices on their experiences.

Last month the school, thei 2010 Ambassadors’ Programme for Year 7n students was launched and the response was phenomenal with over 200 students applying for their dream jobs. However only six students could be selected to partake in their dream jobs and Wesley Dishington, Joe Gandy, Rosie Carrathers, Ella Murrell, Luke Tippins and Aidan Marks were the lucky applicants.

For Rosie Carrathers a career in journalism has always been her dream. Thanks to the Ambassadors’ Programme she will have the experience of a lifetime when she spends the day at the Houses of Parliament to interview and write an article on local MP Francis Maud.

Wesley Dishington, who has always dreamed of being a professional basketball player, will be spending the day with the top players at Guildford Heat Basketball Club, learning what it takes to fulfill his future dream from training regimes to coaching schedules and even medical awareness.

Luke Tippins’ lifetime ambition is to become a radio presenter so he will be spending the day with local radio station Spirit FM learning the ropes in the studio and finding out how much work goes on behind the scenes.

Ella Murrell will also experience her dream career of becoming an architect as she has been invited to spend an afternoon with Sadler Architects in Horsham. Ella will discover the art of design, presenting and creativity as well as walking away with a real understanding of what qualifications are required for her to become an architect when she leaves school.

For Joe Gandy his dream of becoming a firefighter will become a reality as he will spend the day with the team at Haywards Heath Fire Station. Learning the drills and interviewing the firemen, Joe will be given an incredible insight into his dream career.

Finally, Aidan Marks would love to work as an engineer when he leaves school, to help him understand the skills he will need he will spend the day at the Crawley branch of Thales Ltd who are one of the leading providers of technology in the world.

Headteacher of Tanbridge House School, Jules White, commented: “The students who come to Tanbridge House School are supported to develop lifetime goals and aspirations. We aim to provide them with the opportunities and knowledge to be able to make the right decisions later in life.”

Jules continued: “Unlike work experience, our ambassadors have an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work with some of the top people in their field and venture out into the most exciting of work places.  I feel that their experiences most definitely inspire them, not only when choosing the right career for the future but also when making their GCSE subject decisions.”
