Duke of Edinburgh Awards
Each July there is an assembly for Year 9 students about the Duke of Edinburgh scheme and letters to collect to inform parents.
There are 4 sections to the award; volunteering, skill, physical recreation and expeditions.
Training for the expedition section is one hour weekly after school from December to July and Bronze expeditions are usually the first May bank holiday weekend plus another weekend in mid June.
The other sections are organised individually by the students with guidance from the school.
New rules indicate that there must be one qualified BELA leader per 14 students which currently limits us to 28 students for the Bronze award and 14 for the Silver.
We often recruit 35 students initially for Bronze as a few drop out due to other commitments or lack of perseverance!
Year 10 students participate in the Bronze award and Year 11 in the Silver award.
