Information Communication Technology
Course Outline
- The aims of the ICT Department are to enable students to enjoy using ICT and tackle all applications with confidence and a sense of achievement
- That they develop practical skills in the use of ICT and the ability to apply these skills to the solving of relevant and worthwhile problems
- They understand the capabilities and limitations of ICT and the implications and consequences of its uses.
Course Content - Key Stage 3
At Key Stage 3 students in Years 7, 8 and 9 all study ICT for one hour per week and will be following the Key Stage 3 National Strategy covering the aspects of ICT listed below:

At the end of Year 9 all students will sit an ICT test to attain their National Curriculum level for ICT.
Key Stage 4
At Key Stage 4 students at Tanbridge House School can opt to do extended GCSE study in ICT. ALL students will study the equivalent of 1 GCSE and receive an Award in digital applications (AIDA). Students then can opt to choose Certificate in digital applications (CIDA) equivalent to 2 GCSE’s or Diploma in digital applications (DIDA) which are equivalent to 4 GCSE’s.
The specification currently consists of four units:
- UNIT 1: Using ICT
- UNIT 2: Multimedia
- UNIT 3: Graphics
- UNIT 4: ICT in Enterprise
Beyond the Classroom
Students are actively encouraged to look at the use of ICT in and out of school, there are a number of school trips looking at the use of ICT in practice along with study clinics after school to support GCSE coursework issues. Students have access to the computers before, during and after school.
Parental Support
As parents your support is invaluable in ensuring preparation, research and homework’s are completed on time. Homework for ICT is usually research based and will form the basis for the next lesson in class. Parents are encouraged to contact individual teachers at school at any time to discuss any issues relating to their child’s progress.
