Author Phillip Ridley Visits Tanbridge

17 January 2007

Tanbridge House School was delighted to welcome children’s author Philip Ridley to their learning resource centre for the morning on Wednesday 17 January, where students from Tanbridge House School, Castlewood Primary School, Arunside Primary School, Southwater Junior School and St John's Catholic Primary School had an opportunity to ask Philip Ridley questions about his books.

Philip Ridley’s latest Book “Zip’s Apollo” is one of the nominations for the West Sussex Children’s Book Award 2006-2007.

Philip sees his children’s books as the ‘Backbone of everything that I do’. All confront contemporary issues from a child’s point of view and often have a touch of fantasy.

“ZIP’S APOLLO”

Zip Jingle and baby brother Newt have grown up in the forest, but their move with their Mum and Gran to the uniform and seemingly sterile world of a new town couldn’t be a greater contrast for them. However, when Zip and Newt bring home a shopping trolley from the supermarket and give it the name Apollo, it begins to read their minds and speak to them, so changing their lives around.

A heartening story where the magic of life once experienced in the forest returns for the family and they come to terms with the change and a loss that has affected them all.
