Real pride in school's many achievements
After two years as Headteacher, Jules White is looking back with real pride at the achievements of his colleagues and students.
The Tanbridge House School Ambassador Programme has been running now for two years and 28 students have enjoyed working alongside some of the top people in a career area of particular interest to them and have ventured into the most exciting of work places. From a “pilot” for Virgin Atlantic to “Costume Designer” for Holiday on Ice.
The concept of broadening the students’ minds by enabling them to experience their dream job motivates the students in and out of the classroom and helps with important choices such as deciding which subjects to take at GCSE & A level.
The Ambassador programme is enabling Tanbridge House students to develop their ambitions and take them to further points.
In August 2009 Tanbridge House School received their best ever GCSE results with 77 per cent of students achieving at least five A*-C grades.
Senior prefects are playing important roles with the day to day running of Tanbridge House School. The school has 8 senior prefects who have input in all areas of School life. As well as the traditional Headboy and Headgirl roles the prefects have specific areas they work on.
Alice Bennett – Deputy Head Girl & Charity Ambassador organises charity events, such as the Christmas bazaar, non school uniform days and makes sure each student has a say in the charities Tanbridge House School is supporting.
Recently Tanbridge volunteered to support the Project Rose campaign in aid of cancer research. Alice said, “I really enjoy my school life and my future ambitions include going to University to study Modern Foreign Languages and once I have my degree I would like a job as a translator in the media.”
Luke Harty, Deputy Headboy arrived at Tanbridge House School boy in 2005. He said, “My years at Tanbridge House School have been some of the best years of my life. Things have become clearer, and I have been able to appreciate and challenge basic factors of everyday living.
I found myself looking forward to school. This motivated me to apply, and thankfully become Deputy Headboy in Year 11. In this role, I try to help younger students see things from different perspectives.”
Connecting with the wider community is important to Tanbridge House School. Since becoming a Specialist School 4 years ago community links have developed and blossomed.
Tanbridge House School continues to support important community initiatives, The Y Centre Art Project, The Fast & Funky Food Club for young mums, IT classes for the voluntary services and IT support as well as a wide range of exciting projects with feeder Primary Schools.
For a wider community perspective Tanbridge House is now engaging with local business. At the end of January, its second and very successful Business Breakfast Meeting was attended by over 45 local businesses
Businesses are recognising the importance of engaging with tomorrow’s workforce and are queuing up to work with the students and staff of Tanbridge House School on projects which will benefit everyone involved.

Performing Arts are a key part of the curriculum at Tanbridge House School and every student is encouraged to take part in school productions and has opportunities to perform on stage in annual productions and concerts held at the Capitol in Horsham.
Following the sell out success of Sweeney Todd in the summer students are now busy rehearsing their production of Les Miserables which will be staged at the Capitol on 23, 23 & 24 June 2010.
Mr Liley, Deputy Headteacher said, “The drive towards higher academic standards continues, as does our emphasis on care, courtesy and respect and we are confident with our classroom practices and in conjunction with our extracurricular projects and developments all Tanbridge House students will fulfil their potential.
Our students are achieving wonderful things and we are focusing on the achievements of every student.”
