Christ’s Hospital and Tanbridge House School present

The Rwanda Project

Friday 26 & Saturday 27 February 2010

>> Save the Children in Rwanda

>> UNICEF Rwanda

Tanbridge House School & Christ’s Hospital and have been working together on a notable community project to raise money and awareness for UNICEF and Save the Children in Rwanda.

Students from both schools have been meeting regularly since September to prepare two evenings of entertainment to be staged at the Christ’s Hospital Theatre.

During the first half of each evening, ‘A Patch of Earth’ a play by Kitty Felde will be performed by students. The play explores the face of modern genocide, will challenge the audience to turn questions toward themselves and take time to reflect.   This will be followed by a Fashion Show reflecting the work of the students from both schools and influenced by African themes with the students own original ethical fashion ideas.  Students will be modelling not only their designs but designs by Emma Watson from People Tree. The evening will conclude with dance, drums and gospel again the staff and students from both schools have been working closely on these performances.

Kitty Felde is an award-winning public radio reporter, but she's also been honoured for her playwriting. Her play A Patch of Earth won the Maxim Mazumdar New Play Competition. Felde's one-woman show about Teddy Roosevelt´s daughter, Alice, premiered at The National Theatre in Washington, D.C., and played at New York City´s Miranda Theatre. She's co-founder of Theatre of Note and a member of the Dramatists Guild. This will be the first time her award winning play, A Patch of Earth which premiered in New York will be performed in the UK.  The performances at the Christ’s Hospital Theatre will be made extra special as Kitty Felde will be flying over from Washington to attend both evenings.  Kitty will also be holding workshops concentrating on Human Rights issues at Christ’s Hospital and Tanbridge House School for students leading up to the performances.

Jules White, headteacher of Tanbridge House School and John Franklin head master of Christ’s Hospital were keen for the schools to work together on a project to develop links between the schools and to capture the imaginations not only of the staff and students at their schools but also the wider Horsham community.

Following assemblies at both schools by Francis Maude, MP for Horsham on his experiences of working in Rwanda the joint project has been developed.

Francis Maude and representatives from UNICEF and Save the Children in Rwanda will be attending performances.

To maximize fundraising both schools are holding other events this term to raise money and awareness for Rwanda.

Be moved, informed and entertained; eyes and ears dazzled by an evening of drama, gospel, drums, dance and glorious fashions!
