Tanbridge House School and Christ’s Hospital working together to raise funds and awareness for Save the Children and UNICEF projects in Rwanda

On Friday 26 and Saturday 27 February at the Christ’s Hospital Theatre in Horsham, students from Tanbridge House School and Christ’s Hospital staged an evening of entertainment.
The main purpose of the evening was to raise funds and awareness for Save the Children and UNICEF projects in Rwanda. The two schools who began working together a year ago chose to support Rwanda following assemblies given by Francis Maude at the two schools about his summer 2008 visit to Rwanda when he had volunteered to spend two weeks teaching 50 Rwandan primary school pupils.
Following the opening night’s performance, Francis Maude said, “I am so delighted that Christ’s Hospital and Tanbridge House School have been working together, strengthening community ties and links to raise funds and awareness for projects run by UNICEF and Save the Children in Rwanda. It was a pleasure to attend the opening night of the Rwandan Project and to see all the hard work put in by students and staff from the two schools to provide an informative and entertaining charitable event, it was very special.”
The evening started with a performance of the play ‘A Patch of Earth’ which focused on the face of modern genocide. Kitty Felde who wrote ‘A Patch of Earth’ came over from Washington to attend both evenings and to give her support to the fund raising efforts of the two schools.
Mrs Felde said, “ … watching a performance of one of my plays is like visiting old friends. The production of ‘A Patch of Earth’ staged at Christ’s Hospital is the best I’ve seen anywhere and it was very special to be part of the two evenings.’
The second half of the evening saw separate performances reflecting the skills and work of both schools and the Fashion Show best captured the spirit of the cause to unite the schools.
Jules White, Headteacher of Tanbridge House School in Horsham said, “A very rewarding evening’s entertainment for everyone connected with this unique project which has followed months of planning and rehearsing.”
Both schools are engaged in other fundraising work for the Rwandan cause this term and are on target to raise £7000 to be divided between Save the Children and UNICEF.
John Franklin, Headmaster of Christ’s Hospital said, “The Rwanda Project has been a stimulating educational experience and successful fundraising project for the pupils of Tanbridge and Christ’s Hospital. Our thanks to Kitty who came over specially to attend the performances and for also hosting workshops with the pupils”.
