Students return to Tanbridge to celebrate GCSE results

Students who left Tanbridge House School last year gathered back at Tanbridge on 26th January to celebrate what they achieved whilst at school, at the school’s annual GCSE Awards Evening, sponsored by Trend Control Systems with additional sponsorship from Sodexo.

The guest speaker for the evening was Vicky Ferguson, who met Samantha Cameron and a range of famous faces at the Cosmopolitan Woman of the Year Awards last year, where she won the International Angel Award for her charity work. Vicky set up her charity Glad’s House to help children in Africa to get off the streets and into schools.

She said: “It was great to come and talk to the ex Tanbridge students and hopefully provide them with some inspiration for the next phase of their lives. In my experience, things don’t always turn out how you think they will when you’re younger, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I hope my recent successes can show the students that they can do whatever they set their minds to and I wish them all every success in the future.”

An array of prizes were given out on the night for different subjects as well as for community work and services to the school, with the top prize (The Leslie Prize) going to Lauren Nethercleft, who was an outstanding student in all specialist subjects.

Mr White, Headteacher at Tanbridge, said: “I was delighted to share a formal opportunity to celebrate the success of so many students with their parents and friends. The fact that such success ranged from the purely academic, to improved achievement ‘against the odds’ by some hugely determined youngsters made the evening even more enjoyable. We were also able to welcome an inspirational guest speaker – one of Cosmopolitan’s women of the year, Vicky Ferguson, - which provided the icing on the cake. The audience loved her!”
