Faith, Philosophy & Thinking
It is our intent for the FPT curriculum to engage, inspire, challenge and encourage pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to answer challenging questions. FPT curriculum contributes significantly to the ethos and character of the school; Care, Kindness & Achievement.
It enables pupils to ask deep and often searching questions about their own beliefs, and the beliefs, faiths and opinions of others regarding pertinent contemporary moral issues. Students will be able to deepen their understanding of different world views with an emphasis of Christianity as the main religious tradition in Britain. The teaching of FPT makes links between the beliefs, practices and value systems of a range of faiths and world views studied.
The FPT curriculum will help to develop responsibility and respect for all aspects of diversity and inclusion, whether it be social, cultural and religious, and prepare students well for life in modern Britain.
The overarching concepts for FPT at Tanbridge House School are: Personal growth – developing compassion and empathy; Respect – showing tolerance of others' beliefs, opinions and cultures; Asking Big Questions – communicating effectively and listening to others; Morality – understanding right from wrong, accepting rules and boundaries; Courageous Advocacy – challenging injustice by standing up for the rights and values of others, particularly the marginalised within our society and to develop positive attitudes of respect towards other people; Enrichment - enhancing their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
The FPT curriculum aims to inspire students to become philosophers, deep thinkers who can make critical and balanced judgements about questions of meaning and purpose through developing subject literacy in terms of vocabulary and conceptual understanding.
