Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)

The MFL curriculum at Tanbridge House School is broad and inclusive: we teach French, German and Spanish and believe that students of all abilities can enjoy and be successful in our subject.

Our teaching enables students to interact, convey information and express ideas through the modalities of Speaking and Writing. Listening and Reading skills are honed to enable learners to respond to both written and spoken language.

We understand the importance of raising cultural awareness of the countries in which our languages are spoken. This improves motivation and fosters tolerance and a sense of global citizenship.

We recognise our role in raising standards of literacy. We explicitly and implicitly foster a broader awareness and understanding of the workings of English on both a grammatical and lexical level.

We want to share our passion for language learning and create an environment where students are encouraged to be take risks and to become confident and motivated learners who are able to communicate for the purposes of further education, employment and leisure, in the UK or abroad.
