STEAM Day inspires THS students
Students across the school had the chance to take part in a range of exciting and inspiring activities as part of our annual STEAM Day on 20 April 2023.
STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) Day launched at THS in 2022 and was developed to engage students in STEAM subjects and highlight how these subject areas impact our everyday lives and the world around us.
As part of the day, which was based around the theme of 'Connections', Year 7 students were invited to experience a cutting edge inflatable planetarium. They learnt about a number of constellations and planets, and looked at how we are connected to the wider universe.
Year 8 students spent Period 1 meeting a range of amazing animals, thanks to the Animazing company, including a snake, bird eating spider, pygmy hedgehog and a bearded dragon. Again, students learnt about our connection to a range of animals and the impact of our actions on different eco-systems and species.
Year 9 students explored the arts side of STEAM with a drumming masterclass and Bollywood inspired dance workshop, looking at how the arts can connect us with a range of cultures and communities.
Year 10 and 11 students had lessons themed around STEAM and connections throughout the day.
Mr Stender, Extended Leadership Team, organised the whole school event, said: "Our STEAM day has already cemented itself as a firm favourite in the school calendar, following a few years where enrichment activities had to take a back seat due to Covid restrictions.
I know that the experiences on offer today will form fond memories of THS for a range of students. I hope it has also inspired students to consider STEAM subjects and the wider impact that they have, as well as how they connect us to a range of people, the environment and more."
