Sports Highlights - Autumn Half Term 1 (2025)

Once again, THS students have been showcasing their talent, dedication, and team spirit across a wide range of sports. From athletics tracks to cricket pitches, our students have represented the school with pride and delivered outstanding performances. Here are some of the standout moments from this term:

Football

  • The Under 14 Girls played a brilliant match against Dorothy Stringer in September, for the first round of the National Cup. Sadly they couldn’t claim the win but did themselves proud.
  • The U14s also took on an excellent team from Varndean at the end of term in the County Cup. One of our players was asked after the match to train with Sussex, which was a fantastic end to the game.
  • A big well done to the Year 7 boys, who welcomed Christ’s Hospital for an exciting afternoon of fixtures. The boys displayed fantastic teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship and showcased what a hardworking bunch they are. League games also included victories against The Weald and Bohunt.
  • The Year 8 Boys made it through to the next round of the Sussex Cup at the end of term! The teams also had some brilliant wins against Bohunt and Sackville throughout the half term.
  • In Year 9, the boys have put in some stellar performances against Downlands, St Paul’s and Forest, with Mr Griffiths commenting on some of the great football played throughout the games.
  • The Year 10 boys are through to the third round of the County Cup, following a fantastic game against St Paul’s which resulted in a 2-0 win.
  • The Year 11 boys played Bohunt at the end of term in a Year 11 Knockout Cup fixture, securing a 3-2 win. Well done!

Netball

  • The Year 8 Girls team participated in the Versatility Tournament at Downlands, showcasing strength, skill,  and teamwork throughout. Well done!
  • The Year 10 Girls displayed incredible resilience, communication and determination this half term, particularly in their league match against Downlands in October
  • Mrs Steggles commented on how well the girls have got on over the past few weeks, and mentioned what a pleasure it has been to accompany the girls on their fixtures

Rugby

  • The Under 16 Girls attended a Rugby Festival (taster) at Bohunt towards the end of term. Mrs Broughton-Byrne commented on some of the incredibly gifted players we have in Year 11, and noted that the girls  claimed a victory against Forest, 4 tries to 2!

Swimming

  • In the Sussex Swimming Relay Championships our Senior mixed team impressed with a brilliant 3rd place overall for the freestyle and medley relays.
  • The Intermediate mixed team also claimed a superb 3rd place for the freestyle relay. Well done!
