THS smashes Coastline charity mission
Tanbridge House School has smashed its latest charity challenge which saw the school attempt to collectively cover the distance of the UK Coastline during lockdown.
In a bid to keep the school community working together, raise money for charity and help students and families stay active during the school closure, the ‘Tanbridge Trek’ launched in April 2020 at the height of lockdown, setting the challenge of collectively ‘trekking’ 31,368 km (19,491 miles). Participants were encouraged to get moving however they could and log their distance or steps using an online accumulator.
Over 20million steps have since been logged online, with the school reaching its target in June. Students and families have been encouraged to keep moving and contributing to the Trek up unto 10 July; the date the school’s bi-annual Sponsored Walk would have taken place.
At the time of writing, the distance covered stands at 47,251 km or 29,360 miles.
Over £2,300 has been raised in support of the trek, which will be split between St Catherine’s Hospice, Horsham Matters (Foodbanks) and NHS Charities. Supporters can still donate via the school’s Just Giving page:
Miss Watson, who leads the school’s charity efforts, said: “We are so proud to be able to support these amazing charities during this very challenging time and it is great to know that so many members of the school community got involved.”
