Tanbridge smashes Booktober Challenge
We are thrilled to announce that we smashed our Booktober target of reading 10,000 Non Fiction texts during the month of October...collectively reading over 18,000!
Students and staff members logged their non-fiction reading throughout the month; this included online articles, reference books, magazine articles, biographies, autobiographies and more!
This challenge followed on from the success of 'March into Reading', which saw the THS community collectively read over 100,000 pages together throughout March 2024.
Lucy Watton, KS3 and Year 9 English Co-ordinator, developed the March into Reading and Booktober initiatives. She said: "We are so thrilled to have once again beaten the ambitious target we set for ourselves with this challenge! Our school community embraced the challenge and got involved; not only with the non-fiction reading, but with Booktober events and activities that took place in school and online too."
Additional activities included:
- A Guinness World Record attempt; joining the world's largest poetry lesson
- Non-fiction nobodies shared across social media - can you guess who is reading the non-fiction text
- Year 7 Non-Fiction Book Quiz
- Tier 3 Spelling Bee
- Writers Club Non-Fiction Focus
- Open Evening Booktober Bonanza
Thank you to everyone who took part!
