Travel & Attendance

Travel to and from School

Car

Students can be dropped off/collected by car at school. This is an extremely busy area, especially at the end of the school day, and so we do advise you to arrange collection off site where possible. When driving within the school site, please ensure that you observe all signs, road markings and speed limits (5mph). Please do not park in the bus lane or wait in areas marked with yellow or red lines at any time.

Bus

If your child has applied for a West Sussex bus pass, it will be distributed in school within the first few weeks of the Autumn term. Until then, your child can use their County Transport authorisation letter in place of their pass, which should be sent home before the start of the academic year.

For any further information about school buses, please contact the County School Transport Co-ordination Group on 01243 753530 or school.transport@westsussex.gov.uk

Bicycle

Students may cycle to school on a roadworthy bicycle if you give them permission to do so. We strongly recommend that all cyclists wear a safety helmet and reflective clothing. Students are not allowed to ride their bikes once they enter the school site and they must be locked securely in the cycle racks provided. Please note that we do not accept responsibility for bicycles brought onto school premises.

Attendance

Did you know that there are 175 non-school days every year? We believe that excellent attendance at school is vital. When students and families are committed to good attendance, students are more likely to:

  • Achieve their full potential
  • Have better career prospects
  • Learn how to look after themselves
  • Grow in confidence
  • Keep up with work and homework
  • Develop strong friendships and relationships

We believe it is vital for all students to attend school as much as possible. In order to manage potential attendance issues, formal attendance letters will be sent to parents/carers depending on the cumulative absence throughout the school year, These letters are designed to inform you of your child’s absence percentage and remind families of the importance of attending school. They also act as a flag for the school to take action when necessary.
