Travel & Tourism
Students who study travel and tourism will ‘have the world opened' for them. By introducing students to cultures, destinations, and concepts they have not experienced in everyday life. Practically, the intent of the travel and tourism curriculum is to give students an authentic experience of job roles/tasks in the travel and tourism industry, preparing them for the world of work. Secondly, our course emphasises key themes and challenges associated with the industry to give students greater global awareness and discussion/evaluative skills.
Key skills that are taught include:
- Numeracy - Analysing data in tables and graphs to accurately forecast trends and adapt products/services in line with these trends.
- Discussion and evaluation of key concepts and global challenges surrounding tourism and the social, economic and environmental impacts it has.
- Confidence and employability– role play scenarios and practice at real life scenarios that employees will complete in the tourism industry. Students will learn ‘professionalism’ when interacting with customers.
- To make connections with different topics within travel, but also with other subjects such as business, IT and geography to develop a broad knowledge and understanding of the world and business.
- IT – navigation through booking agents such as attractions, tour operators, accommodation etc
- Referencing of information and how to avoid plagiarism preparing students for further academic studying post 16.
