Benefits of walking:
- Walking integrates physical activity into students' routines, helping to combat obesity and promote overall wellbeing
- Walking reduces carbon emissions and traffic congestion, contributing to cleaner air and a healthier community
- Walking can decrease stress and anxiety, allowing students to relax and connect with peers
Benefits of cycling:
- Cycling is an effective way to boost cardiovascular health, build muscle strength, and improve overall fitness level
- Like walking, cycling reduces carbon emissions and traffic congestion, contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment
- Cycling allows students to develop self-reliance and navigate their surroundings, enhancing their confidence and decision-making skills
Bike Safety
Promoting bike safety through proper training and maintenance not only helps keep our students safe but also encourages a culture of responsible cycling within the community.
Bikeability Training
Bikeability courses are an excellent way for students to develop essential cycling skills and road safety awareness. These courses are typically available during school holidays and cater to different levels, from beginner to advanced. You can find more information about the available courses and how to enrol at https://www.bikeability.org.uk/get-cycling/cycle-training-for-adults/
Is your bike roadworthy?
Before setting out on a ride, it’s crucial to ensure that your bike is in good working order. Check that your brakes, gears, and tires are functioning correctly, and make sure your bike is equipped with lights and reflective materials to increase visibility, especially when cycling at dawn or dusk.
Free Bike Health Checks
Many local cycle stores, such as Halfords, offer free bike health checks to help ensure your bike is roadworthy. These checks can identify any potential issues and provide peace of mind for both parents and students. You can schedule a free bike check at your nearest Halfords store by visiting their website: https://www.halfords.com/cycling/bike-maintenance/free-bike-check/free-bike-check-605064.html
