Exceptional Every Day - Care, Kindness and Achievement
A kind and caring school
At the very heart of our school is a kind and caring community. Teachers, support staff and all other adults formally connected to the school are excellent role models. Students are encouraged to support each other in all aspects of school life. This underpins all that we do and all that we hope to achieve. Once this is in place, all of our other aspirations come to life.
Exceptional Every Day
Tanbridge House School strives to be ‘Exceptional Every Day’. We go ‘the extra mile’ to ensure that our students have the best opportunities to develop their learning and to develop as young adults who look to the future with confidence.
We believe that our core values of Care, Kindness and Achievement play an invaluable part in ensuring that Tanbridge House School can be Exceptional Every Day.
A safe and happy place to learn
Above all else, school must be a safe and secure place for all students to be and we hold this at the centre of all that we do. We will never underestimate the importance of student safety and well-being.
An inclusive school - embracing diversity
We are proud to be a school that embraces diversity and encourages students to be confident in themselves and to aspire and be proactively enabled to reach their full potential.
It is vital that every member of our school community can be true to themselves and receive a full entitlement to every opportunity and successful pathway that THS offers regardless of their background, faith or any other ‘protected characteristic’. Against this background students can be both who they are and who they would like to be.
We strongly believe in teaching students the importance of their rights, mutual respect and the responsibilities that go along with this. We have previously been recognised for our excellent work around these elements by Unicef and these principles continue to underpin all that we do.
We achieved the Equaliteach Gold Equalities Award in 2020 and the Inclusion Quality Mark in July 2022. We are thrilled that our strong commitment to diversity and inclusivity has been recognised through these awards.
Excellence in all subjects
We believe that students must be given the opportunity to excel and experience a stimulating and broad curricular offer.
We are dedicated to delivering excellence across the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Maths) subjects; providing a wide range of opportunities for our students in these areas. For example, we have been at the heart of a range of projects and developments relating to digital technology and our students take part in Maths Challenges, Science events with local universities and much more.
However, we strive to achieve excellence across all departments and also have a fantastic reputation in subjects such as Music, Drama and Physical Education. Our external shows, such as the annual School Production, Gym and Dance Shows, School Concerts and Rock Challenge are a testament to this.
A stimulating place to learn
We are extremely fortunate that our beautiful grounds and modern buildings reflect our commitment to learning in the 21st Century. We are proud of our spacious site and light, purpose built facilities which are fully equipped to prepare students to be independent learners and thoughtful citizens ready to face the challenges of the future.
Our curriculum is stimulating and diverse in order to offer a challenge to all abilities; stretching the minds of the most able to become enquiring and independent thinkers, yet offering support to those who find their studies to be more difficult. Students are encouraged to take risks, work creatively and make the best use of technology and related software packages.
Personal best in learning and beyond
Whilst we would never deny the importance of academic achievement, we believe there is much more to school life than exam results.
We want our students to flourish both inside and outside of the classroom and our students are motivated and inspired by the wide ranging opportunities that are available. These include a range of trips, residential visits, school productions/concerts and charitable activities that support their learning and personal development. In addition, we offer over 50 extra-curricular clubs and activities that students can get involved in.
