Our Values and Ethos

Exceptional Every Day

Tanbridge House School strives to be ‘Exceptional Every Day’ in all areas of school life and we go out of our way to ensure that our students have the best opportunities to develop their learning and to develop as people.

A safe place to learn

Above all else, school must be a safe and secure place for all students to be and we hold this at the centre of all that we do. We will never underestimate the importance of student safety and well-being.

A kind and caring school

At the very heart of our school is a kind and caring community. Teachers and support staff are excellent role models and our students are encouraged to support each other. This underpins all that we do and all that we hope to achieve.

Rights, Respect and Responsibilities

In 2015 we were awarded the Unicef UK Rights Respecting Schools Awards (RRSA), Level 2. This is the highest accolade offered to schools by Unicef and is granted to schools that show commitment to promoting and realising children’s rights and encouraging adults, children and young people to respect the rights of others in school. The Level 2 Award shows a deep and thorough commitment to children’s rights at all levels of school life and we were extremely proud to have received it, along with a glowing Level 2 Report

The RRSA expired in 2018. We continue to be influenced by these values and our commitment to promoting rights, respect and the responsibilities that go along with this remains unchanged. These principles remain at the heart of Tanbridge House School and are reflected every day in our kind and caring school community.

A stimulating and diverse place to learn

We are extremely fortunate that our beautiful grounds and modern buildings reflect our commitment to learning in the 21st Century. We are proud of our spacious site and light, purpose built facilities which are fully equipped to prepare students to be independent learners and thoughtful citizens ready to face the challenges of the future.

Our curriculum is stimulating and diverse in order to offer a challenge to all abilities; stretching the minds of the most able to become enquiring and independent thinkers, yet offering support to those who find their studies to be more difficult. Students are encouraged to take risks, work creatively and make the best use of technology and related software packages.

Excellence in all subjects (including STEAM)

We are dedicated to delivering excellence across the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Maths) subjects; providing a wide range of opportunities for our students in these areas. For example, we have been at the heart of a range of projects and developments relating to digital technology and our students take part in Maths Challenges, Science events with local universities and much more.

However, we strive to achieve excellence across all departments and also have a fantastic reputation in subjects such as Music, Drama and Physical Education.

Personal best in learning and beyond

Whilst we would never deny the importance of academic achievement, we believe there is much more to school life than exam results.

We want our students to flourish both inside and outside of the classroom and our students are motivated and inspired by the wide ranging opportunities that are available. These include a range of trips, residential visits, school productions/concerts and charitable activities that support their learning and personal development. In addition, we offer over 50 extra-curricular clubs and activities that students can get involved in.
